A Horse in Motion by Tapan Ghosh (1993)
36 in x 30 in, Oil on canvas
New artwork uploaded....Horses have appeared in works of art throughout history, frequently as depictions of the horse in battle. The horse appears less frequently in modern art partly because the horse is no longer significant either as a mode of transportation or as an implement of war. Most modern representations are of famous contemporary horses, artwork associated with horse racing, or artwork associated with the historic cowboy or Native American tradition of the American west. In the United Kingdom depictions of fox hunting and nostalgic rural scenes involving horses continue to be made. Famous horse paintings include Leonardo da Vinci's study of horses, c. 1490, horses, c. 1490, Albrecht Dürer, Knight, Death and the Devil 1513, Peter Paul Rubens, Equestrian portrait of Crown Prince Władysław Vasa with the Battle of Khotyn in the background, 1624, Theodore Gericault, An Officer of the Imperial Horse Guards Charging, 1812, Edgar Degas, At the Races, 1877–1880, Albert Gleizes, 1911, La Chasse (The Hunt), Jean Metzinger, 1911-1912, La Femme au Cheval (Woman with a horse),Olaf Rude, 1918, Saint George and the dragon to name a few Source - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horses_in_art abstract art, horse painting, modern expressionism, earth tones, dynamic movement, figurative art, contemporary art, emotional expression, animal representation, bold brushwork This dynamic artwork captures the raw energy and spirit of a rearing horse, portrayed in a semi-abstract style. The expressive brushwork and muted color palette evoke a sense of movement and emotion, inviting viewers to explore the powerful connection between humanity and nature. The composition highlights the horse's muscular form and powerful stance, creating a striking visual impact that resonates with themes of freedom and vitality. Ideal for modern spaces, this piece will inspire contemplation and admiration. The painting features a large, rearing horse depicted in a semi-abstract manner. The horse's body is rendered with broad, sweeping strokes, emphasizing its muscular form and dynamic movement. The color palette consists of muted earth tones, including shades of gray, brown, and hints of red, creating a somber yet powerful atmosphere. The background is a blend of soft blues and grays, which contrasts with the horse's warmer tones. The composition is centered, with the horse's head turned to one side, showcasing its expressive features. Light subtly illuminates the contours, adding depth and texture to the overall piece. This painting bears resemblance to works by Franz Marc and Pablo Picasso, particularly their depictions of animals infused with emotion and abstraction. Marc's use of color and form to convey movement and vitality parallels the energy captured here, while Picasso's fragmented style reflects a similar exploration of form. Both artists infused their subjects with a sense of dynamism, creating a connection between the viewer and the depicted forms.
